Can Black Cohosh Dosage Be Doubled For Post-menopausal Symptoms?
Question: I am 74 years old. I had a hysterectomy in 1974, and have been taking some form of HRT since that time. My Premarin dosage was tapered to 0.3, daily, but because the price was suddenly doubled in January 2014, i decided it was time to stop altogether. By the middle of February I began to experience hot flases which have grown in number to several episodes a day. I was told by my doctor to take Remifemin (night). I tried to order online, but then I remembered that I can't take supplements within two to four hours of taking synthroid. I am now getting a little relief with black cohosh. However, my question is: how long should I expect this to go on? Second question: can I double or triple daily recommended of black cohosh?

Firstly i must appreciate your insight related to your medical condition and inquisitive attitude towards the therapy.
Black cohosh is basically a medicinal substance obtained from plant extracts and is very effective in treating post-menopausal symptoms.
As it is not a drug per se it can be taken in double the dosage but with regular follow ups with your gynecologist.
These post menopausal symptoms will be gone in coming 6 months and you will be fine soon.
Till then you should
-increase water intake
-avoid excess caffeine and hot climate
- eat nuts and especially almonds and walnuts daily
- include soy proteins and tofu in your daily diet
- avoid stress and heavy exercise routine
