Hello thanks for choosing HEALTH CARE MAGIC for your health related queries

Bulimia Nervosa is a one of eating disorder. The diagnosis is made according to criteria laid by XXXXXXX Psychiatric Association in DSM (Diagnosis and Statistical Manual) or by WHO in ICD (International Classification of Disease). More or less both diagnostic criteria are same.

The criteria is-

- Episodes of binge eating or eating large amount of food and feeling that one can't control eating

- To get rid of extra calories taken use of methods like purging, self vomiting or prolonged periods of fasting.

- The behaviour should be observed for at least two times a week for at least 3 months.

- Despite the binge eating and purging behaviour weight is ofter maintained in normal range.

So the Bulimia is diagnosed by clinical means.

"There are no blood or urine tests that can confirm or detect bulimia in a patient."

Lab tests are needed in treatment to work up the patient. These are done to ascertain any nutritional deficiencies, any complication of bulimia.
