Can Calamine Lotion Be Used For Scalp?
My friend used Jamaican black castor oil on her hair and her scalp has been itching and hurting her. She explains the pain as a burning sensation but when I checked her scalp to see if she had any scars I could not see any scars or bumps on her scalp. Please she needs help and what do you recommend for her?
Here are a few instructions that should help
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Yes, calamine lotion can be used for the scalp. I recommend the following:
+Rinse her scalp with cold running water (not too cold)
+She can even use a mild soap, nothing too strong
+Afterwards, dry the scalp and hair
+Use cotton and dip it in calamine lotion and dab it over the scalp, especially over regions which are burning the most
It is a normal reaction, especially if she has a damaged scalp (dry and with dandruff), allow it to rest and she should be fine.
I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
Washing is not mandatory, but rinsing can be done if you wish
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again.
Cleaning is not required, but you can choose to rinse and dry the region and then reapply the calamine, but cleaning is not mandatory.
Nothing to be worried about yet, but if it doesn't subside or improve with the calamine application, then it would be best to visit either a physician or a neurologist.
I hope this helps; my sincere apologies for the delayed response, I had a busy day at the hospital.
Best wishes.
On the bottle of the calamine lotion it says "for temporary relief of pain" does it mean that it will relief her pain for a short period of time and the pain will come back again?
When she is done using the calamine lotion and it heals her, how should she wash it out?
Does Benadryl allergy help in calming the burning/itching scalp down?
Pls write to me with more details on when and why she pulls her hair out
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
First, and most importantly ask your friend to stop pulling her hair out; is this an impulse, due to anxiety, or some other reason? Please do write back, as I am concerned.
It should help with temporary pain relief and also promote healing, but only if she stops touching her scalp and stops pulling her hair out.
No, the cooling sensation is a good sign and ask her to continue it, but I am worried there could be a more deep-seated issue here. Please write to me with an elaborate explanation for her hair pulling habit.
Best wishes.
