Can EPO Levels In Blood Sample Increase After A Phlebotomy?

Question: Hello doctor,

Good Afternoon!

Just wanted to ask does epo level in the blood sample increases after Phlebotomy ? And if yes is that a problem? ...thx

My concern - we got Jak 2. (exon 14 v716F) and s-epo level done one day after Phlebotomy. We had Jam2 negative and epo @12.6....can it be false report cause it was tested after Phlebotomy ?

I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

Epo level increase after phlebotomy in healthy individuals.

However in polycythemia epo level remains subnormal even after phlebotomy.

So your epo level may be slightly higher then actual level after phlebotomy. But we can exclude polycythemia vera.

In polycythemia vera epo level can not increase up to 12 even after phlebotomy also.

So don't worry about results. Just be relaxed.
