Can Fluticasone Affect The Effect Of Venlafaxine While Experiencing Severe Depression?
Question: Can Fluticasone affect venlafaxine.? My husband takes venlafaxine for depression from a TBI. He recetly started the Fluticasone and he now has severe depression What do you recomend?

Fluticasone, a steroid by class, is known to cause severe depression as side effect. It is possible that after starting fluticasone your husband developed depression as side effect of Fluticasone.
In such scenario there are following options.
1. Increase the dose of Venlafaxine. The recommended dose of Venlafaxine is 150- 300 mg per day and if your husband is using much less than 300 mg the dose can be increased at increment of 37.5 mg every week with guidance of treating doctor.
2. Stop Fluticasone and ask your doctor to prescribe some other steroid such as beclomethasone among others.
