Can Forteo Be Taken Safely By Someone With Breast Cancer?
Question: I fractured pelvis in 3 places due to osteoporosis. rheumatologist put me on Forteo daily injections. what are the risks? I am 11 year breast cancer survivor with mastectomy and 5 years of oral chemo. I have had osteoporosis since I was 47. I have been on Reclast then Prolia. Prolia has been discontinued while on Forteo.

Well there is no clear cut association between teriparatide and malignancies , so you need not be concerned about that . One side effect can be local site issues due to drug injection in skin , redness , itching . Other on is hypercalcemia which can cause dizziness , vertigo , blurring of vision , nausea , vomiting etc . Rest others are very rare and do not trouble all .

thank you for all of the useful information. I will need to discontinue if dizzy, vertigo, or vomit. I can tolerate nausea. I have only had one injection so I don't know yet about any skin issue at the site yet. Thankful there is no connection with previous cancer. I will contact my rheumatologist if the injection site gets sore. thank you again.
