Posted on Fri, 25 Sep 2015
Question: Good morning doctor,

I have a small query if possible please reply.
During morning walk I saw a needle(USED IN INJECTIONS) on the road. I held it to throw it away. I touched some part of the needle from its base .There was no visible blood on the needle and i didn't pricked myself. I just held it say for 3 sec and threw it. I don't know if it was used on somebody or not.
Are there any chance of infection..(HBV /HCV/HIV)

Thanks
doctor

Hi doctor,

I know i may sound like crazy but i read on the net that there may be micro particles of blood on needle not visible to the naked eye. I know that i never got pricked but can this be a worry..

Thanks

Brief Answer:
No threat of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Do not worry. The virus does not survive outside body for long on objects. So do not fear. Not everything on blogs on net is correct.

Take care

Brief Answer:
No percutaneous injury in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I would like to tell that in your case there is no prick injury. So there is no risk of HCV infection if there is no percutaneous injury. So I suggest you not to worry.

Take care
