Can HIV Be Contracted Through Saliva?
not likely
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
HIV can be transmitted from mother to child, sharing iv needles, sexual intercourse but it is thought that it is not transmitted via saliva which would be the fluid present in a persons drink.
In one medical study, when the saliva was examined in persons with this infection, the antibodies (formed when the body reacts to the virus) , NOT the virus itself was seen.
It would only be considered if a persons have open bleeding sores in the mouth or gums that are persistently bleeding but not from any saliva.
When persons drink, in general as the liquid goes into the mouth, saliva or blood if present, would not go back into the glass unless the person spits into the glass/cup.
Summary:(1)Extremely extremely unlikely
(2) HIV is not transmitted with contact saliva
(3)transmission can occur with open ulcers or bleeding gums but person would have needed to spit these secretions into the cup
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
