Can HIV Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: I had unprotected oral sex with a trans man. I received and performed. I never ejaculated the other person ejaculated outside and i might have performed after that. After 2 weeks i started to get mild symptoms. I went for a std test chymidia gonerreah syphillis hep b and c hsv 1 and 2 and hiv rna qual and 4th gen antigen/body test. All results came out negative. During thtis time i was put on methylperidsolone hydroxyine clindyamicin and cobetasol oinment to treat sore throat and some body rash. Sore throat was resolved however my rash aggrevated. After completing the nethylperidosolone course for 6 days and it was 4 weeks post exposure i thought of repeating the 4th gen test. I am still awaiting reaults. In the mean time a follow up doctor visit explained me that the rashes are mollocus contagisum and have small white spot on my tonsil. My throat culture for pathogens and chymidia and gonerreah were negative too. I keep reading that MC had a close connection woth hiv infact it is one of the early indicator of hiv infection along woth others. However i donr have a fever.
My question is - since my rna and 4 gen test done at 21 days are accurate? What are the chances that the test. Did at 4 week mark will turn positive.

I read out hiv eclipse period and it says that after 10 days there will be enough genetic material in blood for qual rna test to pick up? Is it true?

Brief Answer:
HIV RNA and 4th generation test are highly reliable and accurate at 21 days

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HCM.

The risk of transmission of HIV through unprotected oral sex is very less as compared to unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Apart from this test results for HIV RNA, 4th generation Ag/Ab, Hep B and C, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, syphilis are negative at 21 days so don't worry much as the risk is not there.

HIV RNA and 4th generation tests are highly reliable and accurate at 21 days and the chances of result being changed or turn positive are also very less. Also you had truly read that after 10-14 days of infection there is enough genetic material in blood for HIV RNA to pick it up and detect positive. So be relaxed and move ahead in life happily as you are risk free from HIV.
