Can HIV Be Contracted Through Unprotected Sex?

Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Hi doctor, 33 days ago, about 4 and a half weeks I had unprotected vaginal sex. He did not ejacualte inside of me and I'm unsure of precum. I would say there was most likely pre cum. Three days after exposure I got strep throat and I asked my doctor he said it would be way to early for the HIV to be linked to the strep. Anyways now 33 days post I may have developed a rash on my forehead, I'm not sure if it's a rash it kind of just looks like a breakout but I never really get breakouts. Most of the bumps do have puss in them. Also a little disclaimer I have been extremely stressed over this matter and am also currently on my period. Also have been having tension headaches pretty frequently. I plan on getting tested at 6 weeks and having the duo test done. Anyways if I get tested earlier how would my results be? And do you think this could be an acute HIV rash ?

Brief Answer:
Rash is looking to be allregic.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome to HCM.

You had unprotected sex with unknown partner then the risk of getting HIV is there but it is very less with single short exposure. Rashes on your forehead are looking like to be allergic or due to atmospheric change but not related to HIV.

4th generation HIV Duos test also gives highly reliable and accurate result, after 4 weeks so you can go for it and the test result will surely come in your favor. Allay the fear or anxiety related to HIV and try to move ahead in life happily.

Thank You

Thanks so much, do you think my forehead could just be acne breakout ? I usually get very few pimples during my period but because of the heat and stress maybe is that what it could be ? Because they are puss filled. Also would an HIV rash be puss filled ?

Brief Answer:
No HIV rash is not pus filled.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

Pus filled rashes are known as follicles or pustules which may be due to infection or exposure to extreme heat not HIV. Consult dermatologist to isolate the cause and follow the treatment regime. Don't get worried and get tested for HIV.
