Can HIV Be Transmitted Through Blood Transfusion?
Sorry about disturbing you !
1. The question – how much infective dose is for HIV virus, as un understand no one doesn’t know as there is lot of factors
a)One publication it is said
patients with HIV infection may be infectious. It
has been postulated that only 100 viral particles might be required for infection
(http://www.yyyyy.de).
https://www.yyyyyyyyy.lv/#q=Diploma+Thesis+yyyyyyyyyyyyyy+OF+HCV+AND+yyyy1+RNA+IN+WHOLE+SALIVA+yyyyyyyy+submitted+by+Jasmin+Wagner+Mat.+Nr.+0000
b) but buy blood transfusion risk is much bigger and dose is much less
Although for transfusion risk assessments, an infective dose
of HIV-1 is estimated to be 10 virions (or approximately 20
copies HIV RNA)
http://www.yyyyy.int/infection-prevention/yyyyy66yyyyyh/2009_Review-on-infective-dose-for-HIV-infection.pdf?ua=1
c) but in animal models it is said that only 2 – 5 virus particles
After demonstrating in one animal each that the passaged virus could infect chimpanzees following intravenous (i.v.) or cervical inoculation, the i.v. infectious titer of the stock was determined. Exposure of three chimpanzees to different doses of the virus indicated that the titer was between 2 and 5 TCID50.

2. As I understand it is only modulation and In reality it is much different
As based by statistic blood transfusion is the biggest treat and risk is highest and the viral load is the lowest for transmission
Is it so ?
But for other risk factors like sex und others risk is much lower and viral load for transmission is much higher.
Is it so ??
It is because in mucous membrane is much more immune factors that protect body !
Is it so ??
So there is no risk for casual contact HIV transmission as I could imagine if infective dose would be 1 to 2 virions there would be a lot much much more infected persons in the world (by casual contact) like kissing, small tiny saliva drop in eye during close contact conversation and so on !
is it so ?
logic theory – because HCV is much more infective than HIV
and if such small amount of HIV could infect ….it won’t be logic
And those who say that they don’t know the source of infection are hiding their behavior.
Is it so ?
Bloodtransfusion is more efficient in transmitting HIV than sexual activity
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
First of all, I congratulate you for your extensive analysis.
At the same time I want to tell something to you. Medicine is not mathematics to get constant answers. Theoretical knowledge is different from that of practical experience.
Individual with viral load below 400 copies are less infectious and when their viral load is in undetectable level , then they cease to transmit the infection. Transmission through casual contact is negligible as per CDC, XXXXXXX Even though saliva contains viral particle it can not cause a new infection unless it is contaminated with blood.
Of course infectious blood transfusion is more dangerous than any sort of sexual activity.
HCV transmission is more than that of HIV.

As I understand it is only theory that 2 – 5 TCID50 could transmit HIV as this experiment was done on chimpanzees.
Exposure of three chimpanzees to different doses of the virus indicated that the titer was between 2 and 5 TCID50.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/0000
And they say that hiv -1 could be better adapted to humans than for chimpanzees
Centring this estimate on 1.0 TCID50 reflects the assumption that HIV-1 is presently better adapted to human hosts than a strain of HIV-1 titrated through several chimpanzees is adapted to chimpanzees.
http://www.who.int/infection-prevention/publications/2009_Review-on-infective-dose-for-HIV-infection.pdf?ua=1
And only one virion (2 RNA) could be 50 % of infection dose
But these all are only theory – as no one has done real experiment on humans of real dose to transmit hiv
In real world infective dose would be much higher – to my mind logic !
Is it so
And as you said in real life hiv is no so easy transmitted – and such casual contact like French kissing without sores, drinking form same cup, small saliva eye contact and so one wont transmit HIV- as it would all planet would be infected… but it is not
If I swallow HIV virus it will destroyed by stomach acid, is it so ?
To my mind logic
HIV is less infectious when swallowed.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back
Well said.
HIV will be destroyed by gastric juice. Even saliva contains an enzyme called as Lysozyme. That also has some action against HIV. So unless the individual has some oral or esophageal, gastric pathology HIV is not infectious when swallowed. That also a remote possibility.

A microbiologist is the correct person to answer your question
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
I am a clinician. Not a microbiologist or virologist.
So I could be able to answer questions related to clinical manifestations and treatment aspects as well as certain common aspects of HIV transmission. Your question may better be answered by an expert on virology.
Dr S Murugan
You know i have asked to lot of specialist !
No one haves answered to this question as they say no experiment has done on humans, so as this experiment is only on monkeys – in humans it could be much more different.
As every one say it is no easy to get hiv !
As every one would get virus – those who live with hiv patient and those who work wit them and so one…..
The virus concentration is important !
And no one has got it by casual contact !!
So in conclusion in real world is much different – and hiv is not so easy transmitted
Do you think the same ??
HIV transmission through casual contact is extremely rare.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
I am dealing with HIV patients since 1989 onwards. I was a consultant for HIV children care center for few years and was consultant for few voluntary organizations engaged in Care for HIV patients. I am recognized as a HIV practitioner in this area and treating and still holding few hundreds in my clinic and hospital. I am also recognized faculty for many national organizations.
I knew a lot who handle HIV positive individuals in their home. In spite of all these things, I remain HIV free as my many other colleagues and these care providers in the family also remain free from HIV infection. So transmission of HIV through casual contact is extremely rare.
I don't know any microbiologist in this forum.
