Can HIV Be Transmitted Through Vaginal Fluid?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,

I had protected intercourse with a women.

However, I happened to lick her vagina for some time. She rubbed my bare penis against her vagina for about 4 seconds. I do not know if my penis opening came into contact with any vaginal fluid. I did not feel any wet after she rubbed but not sure.

I came to know that there is no documented case of HIV transmission by licking a vagina and rubbing of penis against a vagina

Kindly asses me and let me know the risks of acquiring HIV, I am freaking out.

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
HIV testing is only way to asses the possibility/probability of HIV infecti

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
Unprotected anal intercourse and vaginal intercourse are carrying considerable risk for HIV. Oral sex carries a low risk as per CDC, XXXXXXX
Yours is protected vaginal intercourse. Oro-Vaginal sex carries a low risk for HIV than that of a oral sex with a man.
Rubbing the penis against vagina has a negligible risk for HIV.
But HIV test is the only way to rule out or confirm the HIV infection. All other guessing will never solve the problem or relieve the mental tension.

Thanks Doctor,

I will do the HIV testing (P24 Antigen and Antibody combo test) at one month mark.

Kindly let me know my odds of getting HIV in % from both the above mentioned exposures.

Vaginal licking - %
penis rubbing with vagina for 4 seconds - %

Brief Answer:
Predilictions can not be reliable.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
HIV risk with vaginal licking is less than 4 per 10000 exposures (http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/policies/law/risk.html).
Penile rubbing with vagina is negligible.
But these probabilities will not help us in any way as our predictions are likely to go wrong.

Thanks Doctor.

I will definitely do the testing. Just for my reassurance, the odds of getting hiv from vaginal licking is very low right which is 0.04 % ?

Thank you very much

XXXX

Also Doctor,

The link http://www.xxxxx.gov/hiv/policies/law/risk.html only states that the risk of oral intercourse is only low and not 4.

Also Doctor,

The link http://www.xxxxx.gov/hiv/xxxxxxx/law/risk.html only states that the risk of Receptive oral intercourse & Insertive oral intercourse is only low and not 4 in 10000.

I will definitely do the testing doctor. Just for my reassurance the odds of getting hiv from vaginal licking is very low right which is less than 4 in 10000.

Hi Doctor.

Thank you. Your response would greatly reduce my anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Oral sex has low risk than vaginal intercourse.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Welcome once again.
You can see in that link that the risk of vaginal intercourse is 4 per 10000 exposures and with the oral sex is mentioned as low. That means it is still lower than 4 per 10000 exposures. It is very simple to understand. There mentioned all the other types of sexual acts those are riskier in HIV transmission. Oral sex is low means that act is less riskier than the above mentioned other types of sexual acts.

Hi Doctor,

I have a weird doubt.

The women with whom I had sex was a girl. But what if she is a transgender. Does licking the vagina of a transgender and having intercourse with with condom on a transgender put me at more risk.

To clear I am not XXXXXXX or I did have sex with a transgender. But I have this unusual doubt that what if the women was transgender.

Regards, XXXXXXX

Also, let me know, whether rubbing the penis on the vagina put me at more risk, if she being a transgender.

Brief Answer:
Vaginal sex with a Transgender is unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Transgender would not have a vagina. Their external genitals would be more like the external genitals of a man unless they had the sex conversion operation or an intersection by birth itself . Even after undergone the operation, Vaginal intercourse is not possible. They will either have anal sex or sex between their thigh.
So the possibility of HIV through licking the external genitals and rubbing the Penis against a the genitals of a Transgender is negligible.
Your sex partner would unlikely be a Transgender.
Not to have odd ideas.

Thanks Doctor. It was just my weird imagination. I have been diagonized by psychologist with Neurosis health anxiety.

However I will undergo the 4th generation combo(P24 antigen and antibody) test for HIV between 25 to 30th day to know the results.

Best Regards, XXXXXXX
