Can HIV Or STD Be Contracted Through Protected Intercourse?
Question: Hi Doc,
I had been over to my ex-gf place and one thing led to another, and we eventually hooked up.
I was using a condom, during the intercouse and i was checking frequently whether the condom is still on. So when i was checking i tried to slide the condom further during which it snapped. I immediately replaced the condom with a new one and we continued having sex.
Later in the day i got anxious, and it seems like my ex-gf had a unprotected sexual relationship with her fiance.
I inmediately asked her to get checked for STD. Her VDRL was non reactive, and tridot hiv1&2 negative. The test was carried out on 48th day after her previous unprotected encounter with her fiance.
So my question is,
Should i be worried of contracting HIV. I have become very anxious. Kindly help me out.

You had protected intercourse. Broken Condom did not expose the whole Penis for the infectious material, if we consider your sex partner has HIV infection. Time duration of contact has nothing much to contribute. Contact even a fraction of a second can cause infection.
Negative Tridot test 48 days after the last contact does not ensure that she is free from HIV infection as the window period for the HIV antibody test is 6-8 weeks, extending up to 12 weeks. So the test is reliable only after 12 weeks after the last contact.
Anyway your risk for HIV is negligible.

Since she was tested negative around 7 weeks, and also she has no symptoms and she herself is pretty sure that she is clean.
And with the activity invovled, i could be free of mind considering it not a high rish and br not much worried right?

Had a general qestion in mind.
How likely it is that an Tridot antibody test negative at 7 weeks turn positive later at 12th week?
I have read somewhere that for person with normal immune system generally develop antibodies by 4-6 weeks.
I think i am just getting too anxious of a very negligible risk.
