Can HSV-1 Be Contracted Through Unprotected Oral Sex?
information regarding herpes
Detailed Answer:
Hello. thank you for writing to us.
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist and venereologist).
Unprotected receptive oral sex does carry a risk for transmission of hsv.
The risk depends on factors like the presence or absence of oral sores in the person performing oral sex, duration of oral sex, duration of oro labial herpes in the sexual partner i.e a recently acquired infection is more infectious as against an old infection and whether or not she was in drug treatment for herpes. The risk for transmission is more if she had a recently acquired hsv infection of orolabial region and if she had oral sores at the time of performing oral sex otherwise it is less..I would say less than 5% risk.
Herpes is a local infection and it would produce lesions only at the site of infection, even during recurrences it reactivates to the initial site of innoculation.
Symptoms may or may not show up at the time of initial infection and many patients are clinically asymptomatic and are unaware of new infection untill they become aware by a clinical episode of genital sores at a later date which may be weeks or months later.

Very low risk of Hiv. A negative PCR RNA makes it unlikely
Detailed Answer:
hi.
The risk for hiv is very low with oral sex. A negative RNA PCR at 10 days does make it very unlikely that you would have been infected. However i suggest you to screen at 4 weeks with Hiv Duo test ( P24 Ag and Ab test) as well as for Hsv with ELISA. A 4 week test is more reliable, recommended would be conclusive in your case.
