Can HSV Be Contracted Through Protected Sex?

Question: Did I get genital herpes simplex II (the oral form on genitals?) from an ex-boyfriend who called me to tell me? We are both 51 and "dated" for 2 years. I was previously married, and also had 3 very short relationships but always used condoms. I had never experienced any kind of lesions on my genitals or mouth for that matter. I am female. The boyfriend I dated for two years told me he was a virgin, he had never had a girlfriend, and he had never even kissed a woman until me. Remember- he was 49 years old at the time! Several people told me that they always thought he was XXXXXXX He also was constantly getting cold sores on his mouth and weird big zits on his inner thighs. Anyway, we separated, and I got the call from him about the STD. He said he HAD to have gotten it from me. For the first time in my life I have developed boil like zits mainly on my buttocks down toward the genitalia. I would just like an honest opinion. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Kindly upload an Image

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

Hsv type 2 usually causes genital herpes rather than Oral herpes whereas Hsv type 1 commonly causee oral form of herpes. But this distinction is not absolute and either type of Hsv can cause both Oral as well as genital form of herpes.

I would like you to upload a few Images of the lesions that you think are possibly due to herpes. Only after having a look I would able to tell you with conviction if it is herpes or something else.
You may upload an image either at "Reports Section" Or you may alternatively mail me the Image at YYYY@YYYY with the subject line of this mail as Attention:Dr.Kakkar.

Hello, I have emailed a photo. I am also curious....how much weight should I give to the fact that a 48 year old man, if he finds females sexually attractive, claims to have NEVER had a girlfriend, NEVER kissed a girl, and NEVER had sex? He is the one who always had sores around his mouth and near his genitals.

Brief Answer:
Seems like a folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you. I have reviewed the Image.

It seems more like 'bacterial folliculitis' to me rather than herpes. This site too i.e buttocks, is quite unusual for herpes. I suggest you to use a topical antibacterial e.g mupirocin cream or neosporin ointment, twice daily.

However, as a precaution you should take a blood test for herpes. I suggest an ELISA for Hsv type 1 and type 2 (IgG and IgM). That would put all doubts to rest.

Regarding, if a 48 yr old man had ever kissed or ever had a girlfriend or had sex or not, it would be hard for me to comment on that. Cannot speculate on it, there is no way to know that with certainty. By the way, not all sores in or around the mouth are herpetic.
