Can Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Cause Myositis?
Question: Can Hashimmotis thyroiditis produce a myositis like picture ?
Brief Answer:
Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
Yes it can but the hypothyroidism caused by the Hashimoto's needs to be severe enough to cause muscle damage. So if hypothyroidism is undiagnosed or untreated then the TSH. can rise significantly. In such cases muscles can get affected. However it results in a 'myopathy' rather than 'myosotis'. The latter refers to inflammation of the muscle just like the process occurring in the thyroid in Hashimoto's. But it is more of a muscle weakness
