Can Hydromorphone Dissipate Anxiety And Nervousness?
Question: I am taking Hydromorphone to help me sleep (not much pain) after three large three kidney stones were removed three 3 days ago. I am experiencing anxiety and nervousness - it's very disconcerting. I will stop the narcotic and take over-the-counter Unisom tonight as a sleep aid. How long before the anxiety and nervousness dissipate? It's been about 15 hours since I last took the narcotic pill. I think I can wait another 8 hours for these effects to dissipate, but it's tough. What can I do? Thanks.

I had three stones - 6mm, 7mm and 9 mm. One was removed by lithotripsy, the other two endoscopically, during the same surgery. A stent is in place. I am Type 2 diabetic, taking Lantus Solstar insulin glargine, 20 units daily; also Metformin, 1000 mg twice daily; also Invokana, 300 mg daily. Blood sugars are 85-140 daily. A1C is 6.4-6.7. After the kidney stone surgery, I am taking Ciprofloxacin HCL 500 mg antibiotic twice daily for 7 days; also Tamsulocin HCL 0.4 mg once daily for enlarged prostate discovered during pre-op CT scan. I also have available to me Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen 10-325 and Ibuprofen 600 mg from Emergency Room visits prior to the kidney surgery. I no longer have pain, but I need to great rid of the anxiety, and I need to sleep. What do you recommend? Thanks! -Martin.
Brief Answer:
No cause for anxiety.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Now, i've a clear picture about your treatment so far, and give you proper advice.
You should be relaxed now, that all your 3 stones are out of your system.
Stent is placed only for a few days or a week or so.
I don't know what exactly is the cause for your anxiety.
You should be checking your blood sugar always remains normal.
Drink 12-15 glasses liquids daily, till the stent is out. Thereafter, 12 glasses daily.
You can take tablet Cyclopam twice or thrice daily, if you have spasms on the side.
Hope your anxiety has disappeared now.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
No cause for anxiety.

Thank you very much. Your statement that there is "no cause for anxiety" suggests that you think my anxiety is caused emotionally. To the contrary, I had no anxiety at all prior to taking Hydromorphone. According to Drugs.com, side effects of Hydromorphone include •agitation •mood or mental changes• thoughts of killing oneself• feeling sad or empty• fear or nervousness. I am experiencing all of these, and they all began after I started taking Hydromorphone. I have stopped taking that drug. Is there anything I can do or take or get rid of these agitation side effects? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Start exercising.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
You're right. It's only the Hydromorphone, that's giving you a concern.
It has nothing to do with your original problem of stones, or treatment.
Now the best step you can take is ,start exercising, like cycling, swimming, Jogging, music, reading, etc, and soon you'll be back to routine.
Wish you well.
