Can I Conceive?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Feb 2025
Question: My menstrual cycles are pretty regular apart from a couple of blips. The problem is I always had 5 days of bleeding but now this has changed to 8 days and on one occasion 10 days. I am worried I won't ovulate as I am just starting to try and conceive. Tests in the past have shown I do ovulate it just worries me with the prolonged days of bleeding. For the 1st 3 days I am really light like one towel all day. Then it goes to normal period, no heavy bleeding or clotting or anything just normal for me. I have a telephone appointment with GP on Thursday but just wondered whats going on and if I can conceive?

Brief Answer:
polymenorrhoea

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
As you are 45 and trying to conceive, and with cycles becoming irregular since last 6 months or so, with prolonged bleeding during menses, there are chances that you may be experiencing irregular shedding due to anovulatory cycles.
So it s recommended that you may get your hormonal profile done ( AMH-ovarian reserve, LH, FSH, SERUM ESTRADIOL, SERUM TESTOSTERONE), Thyroid profile and serum prolactin levels along with an ultrasound pelvis to check for endometrial thickness ( to evaluate phase of endometrium).

Detailed Answer:
Hello, ,
the fact that you had irregularity of menses and prolongation occurred post triamcinolone injections , so it is likely that they would regularise on their own. Most of the time the prolongation of menses is stress induced due to hormonal imbalance.
Sometimes clear blue is positive and yet one doesn't ovulate. The only confirmation of ovulation is an ultrasound. So to make a comment on ovulation a mid cycle ultrasound shall be mandatory.
