Can I Continue To Breast Feed When The Child Is Showing Symptoms Of Irritation And Stomach Disorder?

We have a new born baby (10 days old) who is showing signs of irritation and stomach disorder. My wife is suffering from slight fever. Is it okay for her to continue to breastfeed the baby or should it be avoided for the duration of the fever?
Fever simply should not be considered to stop breastfeed
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Breast feed is the best for babies and there are very few conditions in which it should be discontinued.
Fever simply should not be considered as a reason to stop breastfeeding.
Change in stool pattern, mild regurgitation of feed, sometimes mild abdominal fullness etc., are common in this age.
Monitor the temperature and give paracetamol to the mother of fever is there. If she is having severe cough, cold you may discontinue the breast feed just to avoid infection to the baby. Even in that condition breastfeed can be given if she wants after taking extra care like use of mask and all.
In such condition expressed breast milk should be given as it helps in continuing the milk production and you need not to give formula feed.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
