Can I Exercise Swim I Have A Right Inguinal Hernia ?

Surgery: Earlier, the better.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and detailed history with great understanding.
There are 2 thoughts:
First is the one your Doctor or Surgeon said. ( as you have mentioned above).
Second thought: To go for surgery asap. (not urgent though) And belief with 35 years of my practice with reasoning.
There is a large protrusion on standing. This itself is an indication for surgery.
Your age is 59.
Prostate may trouble in later stage causing more straining of abdomen and thus adding on to the size of hernia.
You are pre-diabetic. Right time to get operated to have minimal or no complications. Diabetes causes or enhances medical problems over time. It is always best to get operated when you are medically fit.
Exercises and swimming can be done if it is not causing too much enlargement of hernia/pain. But if you notice anything odd, hold on.
You may please get a referral for a Surgeon, discuss these points to come to a conclusion. Once operated you will be free off hernia and tensions attached with.
The opinion of every Doctor/Surgeon may vary as per his teaching, thoughts developed over years. Common sense prevails over anything.
- There is no way to push it back. Please ''do not'' use any hernia belt or so as it can cause more complications.
- Have smooth motions (passing stool- if needed take a stool softener), avoid anything that raise the intra-abdominal pressure.
I hope this answers your queries and helps you to take a proper decision.
Take care. Please give feedback and feel free to ask for any further relevant queries.
Continue proper medical management of medical problems.
