Can I Not Take Anti Viral Medication For Breakouts When I Have Type 1 Genital Herpes?

Question: Hi doctor,
I have herpes type 1 genital. Can I not take anti viral medication if I have breakouts.
Will it affect my health by not taking medication and let it heal by it owns?

Hi,

I would recommend you to take a course of antiviral medicine when you get an attack of herpes.
It will hasten the healing process, reduce the frequency of occurrence of herpes episodes and prevent shedding of infection and thus will reduce its transmission to others.

Doctor,

My doctor told me it is not a genital herpes case. But I have blister on my shaft of my penis. It goes away within 3 days. He did a blood test for me and the result came back as type 1 at 1.2.

Do you think skin irritant can cause the blister? I am not sure.

Yes, even a skin irritant can cause a blister on the penis.
If it was not associated with pain and burning and healed within 3 days herpes seems to be unlikely.
