Can I Take Azithromycin And Nitrifurantoin At The Same Time?
Question: Can I take azithromycin and nitrofurantoin at the same time? I was prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI and have been taking for 5 days (2 days remaining) and was just prescribed azithromycin for bronchitis.
Brief Answer:
Yes you can take.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Yes you can take both of them together, no problem in that.
However many times Azithromycin is also effective in UTI. So if you have your Culture report, you can check, if the organism is sensitive to Azithromycin too, you can stop Nitrifurantoin and carry on with Azithromycin.
Otherwise also, you can take both of them. Many texts states the interaction but actually that is not significant. We use both of them together in clinical practice.
If you have any further query please ask me.
