Can I Take Mifegest Orally?
Question: Hi my name is XXXX. It's been 40 days for my wife since LMP. We performed a urinal test using home test kit proves positive. We have analyzed and have taken 1 mifegest 200 mg last night at 12 and further planning to have 2 more tablets of mifilegest 200 mg in noon today. Tomorrow she would have 2 mifeprost 200 mg consumed placing it under the tongue.
1. Are we doing things correctly.
2. When shall she expect bleeding.
Please guide us.
Brief Answer:
may need to add Misoprostol
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
You seem to be doing things rightly. However, your wife may need additional tablet of Misoprostol vaginally as well. I usually prescribe 100mcg of Misoprostol vaginally every 6 hours for 3 times.
She should start bleeding within 24 to 36 hours of taking the first dose of Mifeprost.
Let me know if you have more queries.

Rather than taking mifeprost vaginaly for every six hours. Can we take 2 mifeprost 200mg under toungue on 48 hours and 72 hours subsequently. Will this help in proper abort
Brief Answer:
it is misoprostol vaginally, not mifeprost
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It seems like you are confused with the drugs.
I mentioned tablet Misoprostol to be taken vaginally, and not mifeprost. Mifeprost 'IS' to be taken orally always.
It is misoprostol that needs to be inserted vaginally.
Yes, you can take 2 Mifeprost 200mg tablet orally on 48hrs and 72 hrs subsequently. This should help in complete abortion.
Do a check ultrasound scan after a week of the completion of abortion process.
The Tablet Mifeprost can be swallowed orally with water, and need to be taken under the tongue necessarily.
Hope this helps.

Hello doctor. As told earlier my wife took one mifigest 200 mg of (manufacturer-zydus cadilla) on 11.55 pm on friday and took two mifigest 200 mg on Saturday 12 pm. Bieber she is yet to get her bleeding started.
1. Can she take 2 misoprost 200 mg (manufacturer - cipla) at 12 pm today or need wait for bleeding to start first and consume this tablet tomorrow.
2. Will it bleed only after consuming misoprost 200 mg.
kindly suggest
Brief Answer:
take misoprost at the earliest
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
1. She needs to take Misoprost at the earliest, 2 tablets of 200 mg. Do not wait until the bleeding starts. Take the tablet at the earliest.
2. Not necessarily, bleeding can happen even without consuming Misoprost.
An ideal way to deal with this would be to contact her gynecologist directly and proceed accordingly.
I warn you that these are prescription drugs, and need to be taken strictly under the care of a doctor.

Hi doctor. My Wife took two misoprost 200mg (manufacturer - cipla) last night around 11.30 and she has also consumed for mifeprost 200 mg today around four. My questions are
1. She started bleeding from last night. She urinates thick at times and have clots. However the flow seems to be as same as her normal menstrual cycle.
2. She consumed the tablets normally with water and NOT vaginaly or placing it under tongue. Is that fine?
Does she still need to consume more tablet
Brief Answer:
repeat the medicines
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your answers:
1. In such a case, I would treat your wife with another tablet of Mifeprost 200mg orally, 12 hours after the 4 o clock dose. In addition, I would also repeat 2 tablets of misoprost 6 hours later orally, after the last dose.
2. Yes, consuming the tablets orally with water is fine.
This is how I would treat my patients for abortion.
