Can I Take Up Steroid Injections In Spine Have Acute Upper Back Pain From Past ?
Question: Hello Doctor
I have acute upper back pain from past 1 month, I experience pain when I lie down or when I sleep. When I woke up in morning or in mid night my entire spine is stiff and I am unable to move or get out from bed. Even of I get out of bed for 30-60 mins I have to strech out and sit straight or walk and exercise to ease the discomfort.
My Doctor suggest to go for MRI Lumbar spine, I got it done (can you please translate the report findings in plain English).
What might be causes for this pain.
What treatment options do I have.
Is it a permanent damage to my spine or curable.
Can I take up steroid injections in spine
Can I take up chiropractic approach.
Please review and suggest.

I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
I have read the Query and reports of MRI.
My Impression , according to symptoms and MRI is spinal Canal Stenosis ( Narrowing of the spinal canal from where all the nerves exit al L4,L5 )with early lumbar spondylosis ( Mild degenerative changes).
Initial treatment would be anti inflammatory pain killers , muscle relaxants and pregabalin, Physio( IFT + Spinal Extension Exercises) .
There is no permanent damage and the condition is very much treatable.
I would not recommend Steroid injections at this stage but if no relief with medications in few weeks .
I Don't have any experience with Chiropractic methods so can not comment .
Also I would like to get your Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D3 levels.
