Can I Use Hydrozine HCL To Treat Itching And Burning Sensation Caused By Shingles?
Question: Can i use hydrozine hcl (oral) to treat my wife's itching and burning caused by shingles? All sore are covered over, but pain and irritation continues. Thank you. Art Miller, Newtown, PA

Hi,
hydroxyzine can safely be used for itching , however it can cause some drowsiness so better be used at night at low dose initially like only once. Latter it can be increased. So its is safe to be used for itching but I don't think it would work for the pain. .(It should be avoided in pregnancy )
However the pain may not respond to it .the pain of shingles may be problematic and difficult to treat and may be severe .We generally treat that with amitriptyline or pregabalin .If the pain is severe I think you should see you doctor for pain management with drugs like what I mentioned above.
