Can I Use Meth Befor A Breast Augmentation Surgery?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: I have breast augmentation surgery on Monday morning and I am a meth user. Will this affect my surgery in any way? I was told by Other doctors that I would be fine even if I did it the night before, but that I shouldn't use for at least a month after surgery?

Brief Answer: hi and welcome to hcm Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query. I am not sure who are those "doctors" who told you that but most anastheologist and surgeons would not cancel surgery if you take meth or other drugs several days before surgery. at least 7 days you should not use meth if general anasthesia is planned. Even then there could be problems such as drug interaction or necesity of higher anasthesia dosage. After surgery it is less important but also it should not be taken at least 2 week till wound start to heal.in every case you need to inform your surgeon and anashesiologist about drug intake. Wish you good health.feel free to ask.

Would adderall and meth both have the same type of effect on my anesthesia? Because I told my surgeon i was concerned because of my use of adderal (rather than saying meth) and other diet supplements. He said that i would be fine and he still felt good proceding with the surgery. What would you suggest i do?

Brief Answer: hi Detailed Answer: Yes,these drugs may interfere with anasthetics and it SHOULD NOT BE taken if surgery is planned. Of course, probably you re surgeon is right and surgery will pass fine, but you should ask anasthesilogist about it. The risk of complication even if both meth and adderall are taken is generally low,but if you are responsible person, you would not take that risk. No offence, but try to avoid these drugs 4-5 days before and 2 weeks after surgery, this at least what you should do.
