Can I Use Steroid Cream 3 Times A Week For Psoriasis?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Dec 2024
Question: I am ANA positive last reading being 1:80. Also I have psoriasis so far limited to lower legs. I use some steroid cream 3 times a week and things seem stable. My questions are:
1) Will white peony extract help stabilize or reduce these problems.
2)Will Dapsone help. Should I try it.
3)Any other approach to fundamentally reduce this problem.
Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

let me comment on your concerns in the order you've presented them:
- the positive ANA 1:80 is a pretty common finding among healthy individuals. It doesn't mean anything on its own.
- using the white peony extract is not an approved approach for the treatment of psoriasis, so I wouldn't recommend it
- Dapsone may be beneficial for certain types of psoriasis (like pustular psoriasis) although this is not a first-line treatment. I would suggest trying the first-line options.
- there are other treatment options (like methotrexate, cyclosporin, various biological agents, etc) but the choice depends on the type and extent of psoriasis that's bothering each patient. I suggest you visit a specialist on this disease for appropriate guidance.

I hope I've answered your questions, please let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your response.
In addition to Psoriasis and ANA of 1:80, I also have some blood tests as follows:
C.ALBICANS IGG
1.0 H
C.ALBICANS IGA
1.5 H
C.ALBICANS IGM
0.7
What do you think of these blood tests. Do I need treatment for these. What treatment. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
no treatment probably

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the ANA is irrelevant to psoriasis or Candida. IgG may indicate past exposure to Candida. The same applies to Iga but for mucosal colonization or infection. IgM refers to recent exposure. I can't say whether 0.7 is high or low because it depends on the lab. So unless you have symptoms indicating Candida infection no treatment is recommended.
