Can Klonopin And Suboxone Cause Dehydration?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: I take colonapin and Suboxone. I also work as a landscaper and have suffered severe dehydration where my kidneys shut down. I recovered from that and it almost happened again even though I drink gallons of water and vitamin water to stay hydrated. Are the drugs I am taking causing this reaction to the sun?

Brief Answer:
Klonopin does not but suboxone may be playing role

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Neither klonopin nor suboxone is responsible for kidney failure directly.
However suboxone causes hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) as a side effect. This can worsen dehydration if somebody is already prone to that.
It is likely possibility that due to your work you are suffering from dehydration frequently and sweating due to suboxone is worsening the same.

This observation should be discussed with your treating doctor for reaching final conclusion and change your medication.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
