Can Lamotrigine And Klonopin Be Taken Together?

Question: I have just started (8 weeks) lamotrigine (50 mg) and have bi-polar disorder...due to sensitivity to barometric fluctualtions (which have been extreme the last couple of days) I have taken klonopin,(25) and it seemed to be a take as need help for the brain scramble I seem to have when baro gets too high or low...is this compatable with my lamotrignen and on a reg basis...now taking the Klonopin as needed only..should I add as a reg med?

Klonopin can be taken along with Lamotrigine on regular basis.
However, when taken together you can experience excessive drowsiness, sedation, confusion etc.
Klonopin, when taken daily, can also decrease your blood pressure levels. If you experience any dizziness (low blood pressure can cause this), consult your doctor to reduce the dose of Klonopin.
I would also recommend informing your treating physician first, before taking Klonopin on regular basis.

What is unusual is that the Klonopin gets me up and moving around...I have been in a serious depression for 4 months (sleeping 18 hours a day ) ...that is when doc put me on lamotrigine...while dosing up in increments on the lamicil, she gave me klonopin to help with my "black spells",.....once I on regimen of 50, I not in depression, but no motivation except bare minimum of activity...my point: the klonopin activiates me and makes me interested in my old activities...not sleepy or confused....

As I had mentioned in above answer, if you feel Klonopin works for you, inform your doctor regarding this and regarding taking Klonopin on regular basis.
However, I would like to add that Klonopin is not the treatment of choice for depression. It is used in the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders.
