I usually advise to use mixed drugs preparations containing: Metronidazole, polymyxin, neomycin and nystatin drugs or nystatin with nitrofurantoin and metronidazole. They come to ovules forms and can be used at night, once daily for 12 days.

In other words, apart metronidazole, you need to use other medications too to cover all types of vaginal infections (bacterial and fungal).

You can ask at your local pharmacy if they come as OTC.

With regards to metronidazole gel, it can be used for up to 5 days because you are taking a larger amount of the drug when using once daily. So, you are taking a higher dose for less days. While, if you use other types of cream or ovules, you take lower dose for longer (more days).

If you took it for 10 days without consulting your doctor or pharmacist, I advise not to use it anymore, Nothing bad would happen to you. Try not to repeat it again or use drugs without consultation.

It is normal to have mucus and yellow discharge as you are using the gel. Actually, this discharge will help you clean off the bacteria. You should keep good hygiene of your genitalia.

Should wash it well before applying the medication, not just wiping. Actually, I advise my patients to:
- wash the genitalia with warm water and hypoallergic soap
- rinse well first with warm water, then with cold water
- after that, rinse with chamomile tea
- dry it well
- apply medication
