Can Miralax Be Given For Constipation In Child?

Question: My 3 year old has bowel movement problems. He can go one day but the next day he will be so constipated it has to be pulled out. We are up with him lot of nights because he is uncomfortable. I worry that this could be a medical problem. His pediatrician doesn't seem to worry. When he needs to poop he asks for a diaper and poops standing up. Will not use toilet. We give him Miralax and it helps some but he still has a movement problem. Help!!!!!!!

This very common problem. I agree with giving him miralax. this is typically a very effective supplement. sometimes, if we notice that it is helping but not helping enough, it is perfectly safe to increase the dose. I would discuss this option with your doctor.
I don't believe there is anything inherently wrong with your child. However, if adjusting the miralax dosage doesn't help, I would consult with your doctor regarding seeing a stomach specialist.
