Nexplanon or Implanon is a good contraceptive while in its position and has not expired. Yet, cases have been reported where pregnancy has occurred while the implant is still in position. There can be a false negative pregnancy test in such a situation and hence further investigation becomes necessary to establish the diagnosis.

Other causes for a false negative pregnancy test are early test, diluted urine, too low hormone level during very early pregnancy and unhealthy pregnancy.
