Can Norethisterone Can Help Prevent Pregnancy After Intercourse?
Question: Hi, I want to know whether Norethisterone can help prevent pregnancy after intercourse? It's been 5 days after unprotected intercourse and now I'm a bit worried about getting pregnant. If it can help prevent pregnancy, how should I be taking the pills? I have previously got a prescription of Norethisterone for period delay, which the doctor explained to me that it was also a kind of contraceptive pill, that's why I'm specifically asking about this medicine since it's already available at hand.
Brief Answer:
No,it will not be use as a contraceptive pill.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us about it.
I can understand your concern.
Norethisterone is a progesterone and used to delay menstrual period.
You can not practice it as a contraceptive pill.
In your case I-pill is the drug use to prevent pregnancy, but as you said it is already 5 days, so no method is available to prevent pregnancy now.
Then you have to wait for your next period.
I would like to know what wad your last period date. Do you get regular periods?
Hope it is useful.
Good luck.
Regards

Hi, Dr XXXXXXX
Thanks for your speedy reply. My period came on the 11th this month. The previous month was around the 13th and the month prior to that was probably around the 18th. What can that tell?
And if there's no pill I can take now, when would be the earliest I can do a pregnancy test with the over-the-counter testers?
Many thanks
