Can Opdivo Infusion Be Administered As An Intravenous Push For The Treatment Of Leptomeningeal Melanoma?
Question: My brother has had stage 4 metastatic melanoma for 2 years. He was just diagnosed with leptomeningial disease 2 weeks ago and is on steroids and radiation. He has had one dose of Opdivo, delivered through a port, but not interethically. The docs decided against interethical treatment and I don’t know why. Does this mean there is no hope?
Brief Answer:
Intrathecal administration of Opdivo is in early research phases only
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Opdivo is currently used as an intravenous medication for the treatment of leptomeningeal melanoma. Such mode of administration has been found helpful in prolonging over all survival rate. Intrathecal administration of Opdivo is only in early research (clinical trial) phase. So not enough data is available in that regard. That must be likely why the doctors have decided against intrathecal administration.
Hope this answers your question.
