Can PID Be Transmitted Through Unprotected Intercourse?
Question: My partner has just been diagnosed with PID. The last time we had intercourse was over a month back and it was unprotected. My net research says I may also need to get myself tested. My question is that could she have contracted PID from me after a month of having had intercourse?
Brief Answer:
yes its possible
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to healthcare magic,
Yes it's possible to get PID upto 3 months from an affected partner.
This means it's possible that your partner may have got it from you.
Best to get tested and treated for the same as soon as possible. Also recheck for infection three months from now in both you and your partner to know if it's completely cured or requires re-treatment.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Thanks. We have been in a relationship for almost 10 months now and have had unprotected intercourse earlier as well. I am just wondering how come she may have contracted this from me only now?
What may have caused this other than sexual activity? Does personal hygiene also play a role?

Brief Answer:
PID is usually through sexual contact only.
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
PID is through sexual contact, but it may so happen that the infection was there for sometime and due to lowered immunity it can manifest now. It's more important to cure it completely now as repeated infection or prolonged infection can lead to long term harm. It can especially affect the tubes and cause infertility in the long run if not cured.
Always use condoms atleast for the next 3 months till the test shows both of you are cured as it will prevent re infection from each other.
Hope this helps.
