Brief Answer:
You can take it for long time but need to evaluate why you need it so long
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thank you for asking a follow-up question.
Pantoprazole and all the medicines of the same family are very safe medicines.
For symptomatic relief using once in a while Pantoprazole is ok, but if you are using it for treatment purposes, then you will need to use it regularly, otherwise it won't heal the ulcer completely and the symptoms may come back when you don't use it. .
For Peptic Ulcer it is recommended to take it for 12 weeks, regularly. Then you will need to maybe do another fibrogastroscopic exam, but your doctor will follow you up depending on the protocol that he/she uses.
There are people who use it for years, and the medicine in itself may not give any problem.
But, the follow up with a scope its important, because it evaluates if the medicine is working or if its not working which is the cause of resistance.
Hope this answers your question and the information is clear.
Take care.
