default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jul 2015
Question: my daughter is in XXXXXXX and is required tohave a rabies vaccination for her veterinary medicine course at UCD Dublin. She has had three injections of the XPRAB vaccine but is returning to XXXXXXX in a few days. She still has tohave two more shots.HoweverXPRAB does not appear to be available in XXXXXXX would another vaccine be acceptable. the Health Service in XXXXXXX use a Pasteur vaccine, would that be ok? Alternatively she could bring the vaccine back from XXXXXXX in a thermos flask with ice. I would be most grateful for your opinion
Many thanks XXXXXXX Garnermann

Brief Answer:
My suggestions are mentioned below for her safety

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. As she is currently in XXXXXXX I would recommend the following:

+Carry the 2 extra XPRAB vaccines from XXXXXXX and if they are still viable and acceptable by the medical team in XXXXXXX then we can administer those to her on the due date. Speak to the pharmacist in the XXXXXXX pharmacy (medical store) and get all the details about storage and transport of the vaccine. Make sure she abides by all those rules and also informs her airlines about the reason and purpose for carrying those very vaccines so the airport or airline staff do not cause any problems

+Alternatively, she can use a brand from XXXXXXX as well, as most of the vaccines around the world have the same components and serve the same purpose

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
