Posted on Thu, 19 Nov 2015
Question: Hi,
I currently have migraine and take flunarin 5 mg twice a week.
For my infertility treatment my doctor has prescribed 1/2 tab of penegra to be taken for 15 days.
I got a migraine attack after taking this tablet.
Does Penegra cause migraine?
Since Penegra expands the blood vessels Can this cause migraine ?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Penegra can cause headache

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi
Good afternoon.
I can understand your concern.

Penegra (Sildenafil citrate) is commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction.
It acts by dilating the blood vesses & there by increasing the blood supply to the male reproductive organ.

It can cause headache, flushing (face and upper body turning red and warm), stomach upset, running nose, and vision changes.
Headache is the most common side effect thus it can aggravate the symptoms of migraine.

Flunarizine is commonly used to prevent the migraine attack.
It inhibits the influx of extracellular calcium in the blood vessels thereby causing blood vessels increased oxygen delivery & thus it may cause a fall in BP.

So, in view of the above explanation I advise you to consult your treating physician to review the prescribed medications. An alternate but a safer medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction or migraine.

Hope this helps in getting the proper treatment with less side effects.

Best regards.
