Can Pepto-Bismol Be Used For Treating Vomiting And Diarrhea?
Question: My husband XXXXXXX has food poisioning...ate Chinese before bed...its 3am, we are visiting XXXXXXX from Michigan. Going home in am. Just gave him PeptoBismol. He is shivering, vomiting and diahea...what do I do?

I am so sorry that this has happened to him. The pepto bismol may help some. It may cause black stools so don't be alarmed if you see that. The main thing to do is to keep him hydrated. If the vomiting is severe he may need to see a doctor in an urgent care before you leave to get a prescription medication for vomiting. Usually food poisoning will resolve on its own once all the vomiting and diarrhea is over. It usually lasts about 24 hours. Make sure he takes only sips of fluids at a time. Drinking large amounts at once may induce more vomiting. He can eat foods as tolerated but the primary thing is to keep him hydrated by drinking small sips of fluid very frequently.

Thank you for answering...should I cancel trip home? He's in bathroom every few minutes, can't take him out, can I? I'm frantic
