Can Pepto Bismol Cause Dark Colored Urine?
Question: Could taking Pepto Bismol be causing me to have dark colored urine?
Brief Answer:
possible side effect
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Peptobismol contains the ingredient bismuth subsalicylate.
It can cause discoloration of the urine. The exact color change can vary somewhat with some persons having no reaction, others having orange or pink or dark red urine.
If you are not sure if it is related to the medication, it would be best to see your doctor for an urine analysis.
If it is related to the medication, it should stop within a few days of discontinuing the medication
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

My urine color was getting lighter today as time went by. But then I did a two mile easy jog. After that my urine was dark again. Does this still seem like a possible side-effect of taking pepto-bismol?
Brief Answer:
may need urine analysis if continues
Detailed Answer:
HI
If the pepto was discontinued then the affect should not recur.
This means that you may want to consider seeing your doctor to have an in office urine analysis done.
In office urine analysis look out for infection, blood, proteins, ketones, glucose, concentration of the urine.
Would not be able to detect the pepto or other medications but would pick up on other causes such as those mentioned- blood or infection mainly would cause color change
Please feel free to ask any other questions
