Can Plaquenil Be Taken When There Is Only One Kidney And I Am Getting Treated For Renal Carcinoma Metastasized To The Femur?
Question: I was using plaquenil for many years for RA. 30 months ago I was diagnosed with Renal Carcinoma Mets. and had a nephrectomy. The surgery indicated I was in Stage 4, and had issues in my bones, including a metastasis in my femur and required a Titannium implant to replace the marrow. Since I only have the one kidney left, I am hesitant to take plaquenil , but my RA has really impacted my spine of late and nothing will really lessen the pain. What are the minuses for me?
Brief Answer:
Continue in my opinion.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In my opinion, Plaquenil is a relatively mild anti rheumatic drug whose main side effect is in eyes. It should be taken with caution in kidney disease.
You will have to weigh the positives with this medicine vs no medicine and alternative medicines which may have more side effects.
I would suggest that you continue with Plaquenil since it is effective for you and has no major side effects as compared to other medicines.
Thanks for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
