Can Postinor Cause Intermenstrual Bleeding?
Question: Good day doc, I had sex on the 12th of april (around my ovulation period), he used a condom afterwhich I took postinor2 for extra precautions. My period came as at when due, precisely on the 25th. 2 days after my period, on the 1st of may precisely,I had sex. Again with condoms n still took postinor2 afterwards. I noticed yesterday (7th may), that I was bleeding, heavy flow.. normally, I should be ovulating. Its worrisome. Could It be an adverse effectof the ccontraceptive?
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
SIDE EFFECT OF EMERGENCY PILL
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX thanks for trusting health care magic.
In my opinion it is due to the emergency contraceptive intake which basically contains progesterone and thus it caused another withdrawl bleeding after your periods were done.
It is not always a safe practice to use emergency contraceptive everytime you have sex because although it prevents uterine pregnancy but it increases chances of tubal pregnancy as it interferes with tubal motility to a great extent.
Instead use a regular method of contraception in the form of oral pills.
