Can Reclast Cause Lower Back Pain?
Question: I had my first Reclast injection for severe Osteoporosis the end of February w/no noticeable side effects. I'm also an MS patient with gait problems, frequent UTI's. The past 2+ weeks, I have experienced much lower back pain. Today, it it severe to the point I can barely walk and am not sure whether it is a UTI or because of Reclast. My UTI symptoms are usually different, including frequency which I'm not experiencing. Not sure which doc to call! Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Lower back pain is a side effect of Reclast!
Detailed Answer:
HI and thanks so much for this query.
I have reviewed this information fully. This is probably a side effect of reclast as it is well documented. I will suggest that you go with Tylenol 1000mg every 6-8hours and advil 400mg every 8hours for effective pain control. If this fails to control your pain, then you may call your primary care doctor or a rheumatologist for review and probably a more potent pain medication.
I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Thank you for your reply. I was worried about doing the Reclast initially for that very reason, but had hoped for the best. A once yearly infusion means one is stuck for a year or longer with effects vs. taking a pill and stopping it if one experiences side effects. I will up the Tylenol or Advil through the weekend and call my Rheumatologist Monday if it's not better. Thank you again. XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
You are welcome!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is unlikely that this will go on for a year. This is because the side effects are often more pronounced from the beginning. Let me know how this unfolds as you get the Advil and Tylenol doses adjusted. In addition, drink much water daily.
I wish you well and do keep me updated.
You are welcome!
