Can Regestrone Terminate Pregnancy?
I want to know does regestrone help to abort the pregnancy.
I had protected sex with my wife last 31th January, last month She had period on 14th January and she was expecting her period on 12th February as her period usually comes on 28th-29th day of last month period(every month 2 to 3 days earlier). so we was thinking may be that condom was leaked and she got pregnant, Any how we went a gynecologist and he prescribe regestrone 5mg, and suggest make a urin test at home. She make the urin test today (which is 33 days from the last month's period day and 16th day from the physically relation day) and the result the NEGETIVE. She never had late period in her life. So don't understand is she pregnant. If it is why it's negative one test and will Regestrone tab work to abort the pregnancy, how much it will be effective.
Is it safe? does it have side effect?
If the test is negative the she is not pregnant...
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the question. Here are the facts as I understand them:
1. Period started on 1/14 = cycle day 1
2. You had protected intercourse on 1/31 = cycle day 18
3. Her doctor placed her on progesterone (usually used as birth control)
4. Cycle day 33 urine pregnancy test is negative
A pregnancy test will turn positive about two weeks after conception. Since it has been 16 days since you had intercourse (which you stated was protected as well) and the test is negative, then she is NOT pregnant.
If she were pregnant and started taking regestrone, it would not abort the pregnancy. In fact it would not harm the pregnancy at all.
The most likely explanation is that your wife did not ovulate as she normally does on cycle day 14. When you do not ovulate, the next period can be significantly delayed. During the second half of the cycle, progesterone is produced by the body and prepares the uterine lining for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, then the lining sheds and a new cycle starts. I would suggest the following:
1. Repeat the pregnancy test in one week
2. Have her consider taking the progesterone for about 10 days and then stop for one week
3. She will likely get a period after stopping the progesterone and it might be heavier than normal
Does this help?

This sounds like a good plan
Detailed Answer:
It is just as appropriate to take the pills twice daily for 5 days. It is almost certain that she will get her period within about 2-3 days after finishing the progesterone. And yes, go ahead and do a followup pregnancy test just as I have suggested to be sure.

Thank you for your advice, she just made her pregnency test today and the report is NEGATIVE again. So how long we need to wait for her period ? Dose this medicine blocking the period or making any effect on pregnency test ?
She is not prenant
Detailed Answer:
In reviewing my last answers, and given the fact that it has been well over two weeks since you had intercourse, then this test is accurate. If you have had unprotected intercourse within the last two weeks, then she will need to recheck a pregnancy test once it has been at least two weeks since last episode of unprotected intercourse.
She should get a withdrawal bleed about 2-3 days after stopping the progesterone. If she does NOT get a period within the week following the cessation of the progesterone, then she should check a pregnancy again and contact her doctor.
Finally, the progesterone medication will NOT affect the results of the pregnancy test.
