Question: I have been taken sobrexa to try to quit drinking.......I am on my 3rd week and it has not helped at all....I have also become very depressed and constipated. Does Sobrexa cause depression and constipation? Does it even work?
Brief Answer:
It does not cause depression and constipation
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.
Sobrexa contains natural herbs that block cravings and allow the alcoholic to overcome temptation and prevent relapse. It is a safe botanical medication for up to 4 months. No side effects have been reported in clinical studies. Company pretends 84% success rate with it, but in reality success rate is less. Abstinence also depends upon patients's social environment, mental condition, motivation etc.
If you are not getting any benefit with Sobrexa, that may be due to underline depression. I would suggest you to consult a psychiatrist and get yourself treated for depression. You need antidepressant like fluoxetine, that would also help to control craving.
In medicine, you can also try baclofen, topiramate etc as anticraving agent.
If you need further help, you can ask.
