Can Sterop Lisan Be Applied Over The Stitched Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: I was given a bottle of Sterop Lisan 4% p/v at the ER last night. They told me to use this product to clean the affected area (stitches on leg) three times a days. The question is this, is it necessary to rinse off the solution or is it OK to leave it on.? Today about 7 hours ago I applied the solution and left it on & then wrapped the area with a strech bandage.

Brief Answer:
You can leave the solution.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sterop Lisan is a good antiseptic. You can apply the solution over the stitched area and cover it with a bandage. There is no need to rinse off after applying antiseptic solution.

In my personal experience, I prefer to use an Ointment containing Povidone iodine to the stiched area so that the dressing comes off easily while changing the next day. Most of the solutions get dried up and the bandage gets attached to the sutured site. So, I prefer Ointment instead of solution.

Hope I answered your query.
