default
Posted on Sat, 16 Jul 2016
Question: I have been taking tenoric 50 for last 5/6 years. 2/3 days back I felt giddiness & went to another cardilogist who has stopped Tenoric 50 & has advised to 20 mg Telma.
Is it OK.

Brief Answer:
Yes,it is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to HCM,

I have read your query and understand the concern.

Tenoric 50 mg (Atenolol) is a beta1 selective blockers and it is a good drug in the treatment of high blood pressure and increased heart rate.

Temisartan (telma 20mg) is also a good drug for high BP and it is one of the first choice drugs (along with calcium channel blockers like amlodipine) and comparatively much safer and effective than atenolol.

Giddiness might be a side effect of tenoric (atenolol),so your doctor could have changed it for this reason.

I am completely in favor of this temla 20mg instead of atenoric 50 mg.

Personally,I also prescribe my patients temisartan (telma) for their high blood pressure.

Yes,you can continue with it.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
