Can Tetracycline Be Taken Instead Of Clindamycin For Swollen Salivary Glands On One Side Of The Face?

Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2021
Question: Clindamycin was prescribed for swollen salivary glands that popped up yesterday on one side of face. The reviews of this drug are frightening. Would Tetracycline do the same job? Or Erythromycin? Any other alternative antibiotics? Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on this platform.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

Looking at the image shown by you, it seems that you are suffering from swelling of left sided salivary glands due to inflammation of left sided parotid and submandibular glands.

You may find relief by taking the following medications:
Antibiotic like Augmentin{Amoxycillin with Clavulanic acid}(in place of Clindamycin),
Analgesic with Anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen,
Antacid like Rantac,
Vitamin C tablet.

Also take any probiotic tablet along with the above medications.

Apply warm towel over the swelling for a few minutes for the reduction of pain and swelling.

Drink lots of fluids.

You should consult a doctor personally, if there is no reduction in swelling after taking the above medications for 5-7 days or aggravation of swelling/pain.

Hope this answers your question. Get well soon.
