Can Tyrosine Cause Tolerance By Using It?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I am wondering if i use the amino acids trytophan or tyrosine will i develop a tolerance by using them. i am getting mixed responses from articles online and peoples reviews on the supplement.
are the supplements safe to take in the long term for mild anxiety and depression and just as a supplement for my own well being as if i were going to take a vitamin or protein shake?
are there any dangers to using them at all that i should know about..?
thankyou
Avoid aminoacid supplements unless proven to be deficient
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You are talking about essential amino acid supplement tyrosine or tryptophan. Unless proven deficient I would avoid using them to my patients. In that matter any external supplements are not found to be effective unless deficient. Moreover these aminoacids tryptophan are not strongly effective / positively effective in any proven illness, they are possibly effective in premenopausal disorder or when you are quitting smoking. Else they have no proven uses.
So when there is no strong benefit why should one use it? I still prefer a balanced diet with adequate quality protein content that can give you all the neurotransmitter substrates needed.
So this is my strong opinion.

Studies about tryptophan supplements with chronic ssri medication
Detailed Answer:
SSRI anti depressant medication was believed to cause lower intraneuronal serotonin levels but only in subjects that have a rare mutation in tryptophan hydroxylase 2 (Tph2), the rate limiting enzyme for 5 hydroxy tryptophan synthesis. But this kind of mutations are very rare. Over that further studies have to be done on supplementing tryptophan along with SSRI's if it can improve peripheral serotonin levels and if it can be approved for clinical practice.
So for now there is no robust evidence that proves supplementation helps aid in recovery.

I tried once to get off my ssri medication. with that first experience i lasted 6 months before i was forced to use them again as my mental health had declined to the point where i could not work or socialise with friends or family for a period of time until the medication was taken back again.
i suffered from increased emptional sensitivity, inceased feelings of negativity, increased levels of aggessiveness, anger, nervousness, depression, anxiety. i felt like inwas drunk for 6 months straight. if i could describe it, it felt like i was i had a drunken hang over, with the mental control of a toddler. i jad memory problems..all sorts of problems
Im doing this again. ive tapered over a year to reach half to of my medication. this is as far as ive manged to go after a year. sinve then ive suffered from ibs, acid reflux, nerve pain in the body, increased anxiety, depression, anger, panic attacks and all the other symptoms i did the first time that i went off this medication.
even with a slow taper, a good diet, pleanty of excersize and meditation, i could not go any further.
in your opinion is it better to stay on this medication for life? or to replace them with amino acid? what is better? what would u recommend a patient who wants to come off their ssri medication after chronic use?
Long term SSRI

== There is no real reason to put extra supplements while on SSRI's, I would suggest to stick to quality diet with all colors (7 in number) in your plate. I would continue to support medication for life unless the benefits are completely off.
what would u recommend a patient who wants to come off their ssri medication after chronic use?
=== In our setting a chronic patient with depression is managed by Psychiatrist with follow up to GP. The GP would not really meddle with doses but check for side effects. So decision to call of the medication has to be discussed by a patient with Psychiatrist.

Long term medications.
Detailed Answer:
The medication if properly given by your doctor and taken by you as per the schedule would not last for long. The medication would be titrated according to the needs. Moreover there would be newer medications with lesser side effects in clinical trials. So do not worry about long term medications and its side effects.
HOPE, have this for better future. TRUST, in your doctors. SPIRIT, let it be with you.
