Can Urimax Be Taken For A Long Duration?
Question: Two years back I was told that that I have mild prostate enlargement through ultrasound scanning of abdomen in a routine Master Health Checkup. But no medication was prescribed. Recently, I suffered from difficulty in passing urine for about a couple of weeks. When I consulted a general physician, Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen was done and it was confirmed that I have prostate enlargement and the size of the prostate has enlarged further-measures 4.6x4x4 cm (vol. 38cc) Urinary bladder prevoid 470 cc & postvoid 336 cc - significant. Impression given was mild prostatomegaly. Doctor prescribed URIMAX 0.4 mg tablet one a day for life long. Can I use the tablet continuously for long duration? Will it cause any side effects. I am diabetic and have hypertension - but under control.
Brief Answer:
Repeat the scan in a month.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i must advise you to continue the medication.
It has a side effect of lowering blood pressure, in the initial period , in some.
In the majority, there's no problem. You take it before going to bed at night.
You need to get the ultrasound scan repeated after a month interval.
This is to see the difference in the postvoid urine.(urine remaining after urinating).
You should also check your blood creatinine, and PSA level.
You may get back with the reports.
Take care.
